BATMASS Launches Circular Battery Valley Interregional Forum at High-Level Event in Brussels

On 5th June 2025, the BATMASS project joined forces with three other European initiatives — REVITALISE, REUSE and RENOVATE — to host the high-level event FUTURE4BATT – From Waste to Value: Building Europe’s Circular Battery Ecosystem, held in Brussels and online.

Kickstarting the Circular Battery Valley Interregional Forum
This flagship event marked the official launch of the first Circular Battery Valley (CBV) Interregional Forum — a key BATMASS initiative designed to connect strategic actors along the entire battery value chain, from production to recycling. The forum aims to foster interregional collaboration and catalyse innovation investment projects focused on circular battery solutions.

The opening session featured institutional, industrial, and scientific representatives, who underlined the importance of accelerating Europe’s transition toward a sustainable and circular battery ecosystem.

A Platform for Co-Creation and Collaboration

Participants engaged in a dynamic programme that included four expert roundtables addressing critical aspects of the battery lifecycle:

  • Policy and sustainability frameworks
  • Blackmass recovery and valorisation
  • Industrial perspectives on reuse and repurposing

The event also featured a participatory stakeholder workshop that tackled key challenges in the end-of-life (EOL) battery value chain. Divided into three thematic groups — Policy, Industry, and Collaboration — attendees co-developed actionable insights and contributed directly to shaping the CBV’s future roadmap.

Connecting Europe’s Battery Community

In addition to showcasing the outcomes of BATMASS, REVITALISE, REUSE, and RENOVATE, the event offered a unique opportunity for stakeholders across the battery sector — including policymakers, technology developers, recyclers, and investors — to network, exchange ideas, and align efforts toward a more circular and integrated European battery landscape.

With over 40 participants attending in person and online, FUTURE4BATT reaffirmed the growing momentum behind Europe’s sustainable battery transition, setting the stage for ongoing collaboration through the Circular Battery Valley Forum.
