BATMASS Workshop Fosters Strategic Collaboration on Circular Battery Valley

by | Mar 19, 2025 | Events, News

On February 19-20, 2025, BATMASS played a key role in an engaging co-creation workshop focused on accelerating the implementation of the Circular Battery Valley. Hosted as part of a broader industry event organised by the TEAM2 Cluster, the MecaTech Cluster, and WIN4C – Walloon Initiative for Circular Materials, the workshop brought together nearly 40 Walloon and French stakeholders to explore strategies for enhancing circularity in the battery sector.

A Hands-On Approach to Circular Battery Strategies

The BATMASS workshop was structured around three core themes:

NEEDS: Identifying key challenges and requirements for achieving circularity.

SUCCESS FACTORS FOR IMPLEMENTATION: Defining the critical enablers for establishing the Circular Battery Valley.

AWARENESS-RAISING AND PROMOTION STRATEGY: Developing approaches to increase engagement and drive adoption of circular principles.

Participants were divided into working groups to analyse these themes across four dimensions:

  • Funding and regulatory support
  • Research and innovation through interregional collaboration
  • Social acceptance and awareness
  • Skills development and knowledge transfer

This interactive session facilitated valuable knowledge exchange, fostering new ideas and potential collaborations for accelerating sustainability in the battery value chain.

Strengthening Cross-Border Cooperation in Circularity

The workshop was part of a two-day initiative that aimed to deepen collaboration between Walloon and French stakeholders in the battery sector. In addition to the BATMASS session, participants engaged in technical visits to key industry sites, including CRITT M2A, where they explored cutting-edge battery testing facilities, and CREPIM, a leading European laboratory for fire safety testing on lithium-ion batteries.

The discussions and insights generated during the BATMASS workshop will contribute to the broader vision of establishing a robust Circular Battery Valley, reinforcing the importance of cross-sector cooperation in achieving a sustainable battery ecosystem.
