On 17 March 2026, our project organised the first Circular Battery Valley (CBV) Investment Forum, titled “Accelerating Circular Battery Investments for a Sustainable Future”, marking a major step forward in building a competitive and sustainable battery ecosystem in Europe.
The event gathered around 70 selected participants, including representatives from the European Commission, regional authorities, investors and industry players across the battery value chain . Hosted at the Lombardy Region Delegation to the EU, the forum provided a unique platform to connect innovation, policy and investment communities working towards circular battery solutions.
Driving investment in circular battery innovation
A central focus of the forum was the role of investment and policy frameworks in scaling up circular battery technologies across Europe.
Key EU funding instruments supporting the sector — such as the Interregional Innovation Investment (I3) Instrument, the Innovation Fund and the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP) — were presented, highlighting the opportunities available to accelerate innovation and deployment.
The forum also explored the increasing role of private capital in the battery sector, addressing both opportunities and challenges for investors and innovators working in circular battery solutions.
Strengthening collaboration across regions and industry
Two high-level panel discussions examined how regional strategies and industrial cooperation can unlock investments and strengthen Europe’s circular battery value chain.
In addition, startup and scale-up pitch sessions showcased innovative solutions in battery recycling, material recovery and circular manufacturing, offering investors direct insights into emerging technologies and business models .
The event concluded with the presentation of the Circular Battery Valley Toolkit, designed to support the development of investment-ready projects and foster collaboration between European regions.

The forum represents a key milestone in the development of the Circular Battery Valley (CBV), an initiative driven by BATMASS to create a cross-regional ecosystem for circular battery innovation and investment.
By bringing together policymakers, investors, industry leaders and innovators, BATMASS is actively contributing to accelerating the commercialisation of circular battery technologies and strengthening Europe’s strategic autonomy in the battery sector.
