On March 26th and 27th, 2024, the international “Clusters Meet Regions” event was held in Milan for the first time. This milestone event, organized by the European Cluster Collaboration Platform, in collaboration with AFIL (Lombardy Intelligent Factory Association), Lombardy Region, and supported by the Lombardy Technology Clusters, focused on “Twin Transition: Italian ecosystems and the European agenda for sustainability”.

Why Clusters Meet Regions matters for BATMASS
The event provided an invaluable platform to analyze and exchange ideas around three critical objectives:

  • Evaluating policies and strategies at both central and local levels to understand their effectiveness and implementation.
  • Highlighting innovative models and strategies adopted by Italian and European regions, supported by tangible examples.
  • Facilitating networking opportunities to drive interregional collaborations through the active involvement of Clusters.

With these goals in mind, Clusters Meet Regions presented a unique opportunity for BATMASS to engage with stakeholders and explore synergies in the European battery value chain.

BATMASS’s first workshop: A step toward a circular battery ecosystem
As part of the program, the Efficient and Sustainable Manufacturing (ESM) Pilot Plenary meeting and the first BATMASS workshop were held as side events on the afternoon of March 27th. The workshop brought together BATMASS partners and stakeholders to present the project’s vision, goals, and innovative approach to tackling the challenges of battery recycling and manufacturing.

Discussions during the workshop centered on how BATMASS aims to:

  • Promote the adoption of circular principles within the battery sector.
  • Enhance collaboration across the European value chain.
  • Showcase practical, scalable solutions through its pilot projects.

The workshop marked an important milestone in the project’s journey, laying the foundation for future collaborations and reinforcing BATMASS’s commitment to driving sustainable innovation in the battery industry.
