Our project participated in “Critical Materials & Battery Value Chains Europe 2026“, a two-day event held on 18 and 19 May in Brussels that brought together policymakers, industry representatives, researchers and innovation stakeholders to discuss the future of critical raw materials and sustainable battery value chains in Europe.

The event was organised by the Iberian Sustainable Mining Cluster (ISMC), a partner of the BATMASS project, in collaboration with the European Lithium Institute (eLi) and the Li4Life project. The programme explored key challenges and opportunities across the battery value chain, including mining and exploration, processing and recycling, sustainability assessment, battery passports and policy frameworks supporting Europe’s strategic autonomy in critical raw materials.

BATMASS contributed to the session dedicated to “Processing & Recycling”, which focused on the barriers to achieving sustainable and efficient battery production and highlighted the importance of strengthening circular approaches across the European battery ecosystem. The discussion addressed topics ranging from raw materials processing to lithium-ion battery manufacturing, underlining the critical role of recycling in building resilient and competitive value chains.

The event provided an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge with experts from across Europe, identify emerging trends and strengthen connections between projects, industry and policymakers working to accelerate the transition towards a more circular and sustainable battery sector.

Through its participation, BATMASS continues to support the development of innovative recycling solutions and collaborative initiatives that contribute to a stronger and more resilient European battery value chain.
