On 21st March 2025, the BATMASS project hosted its first dissemination webinar under the title “Pioneering Second-Life Battery Innovative Solutions: Contributions from GREENVISION and ENVIROBAT”, bringing together key industry voices to explore innovative approaches to battery reuse and mobile energy storage.

Advancing Second-Life Applications for Light EV Batteries

This online event opened with a presentation by Marcello Colledani, BATMASS Project Coordinator and Professor at Politecnico di Milano, who offered a comprehensive overview of the project’s mission to foster circularity and digitalisation in battery value chains.

The session focused on the emerging challenges and technological advancements in the second-life use of light electric vehicle (EV) batteries, with a particular emphasis on small and medium-capacity mobile energy storage systems (ESS) and battery repurposing methods.

Innovative Solutions from Industry Pioneers

The webinar featured two in-depth case studies from BATMASS partners:

Yann Lelong, Director at GREENVISION, shared insights on the development of compact mobile ESS, highlighting a solution first unveiled at the World Mobility Show (WMS). His presentation underscored the potential of low-capacity systems for decentralised and flexible energy applications.

Sergei Molchanov, Electronic Engineer at Envirobat Spain SL, presented a prototype battery pack built using recovered 18650 cells. This second-life innovation exemplifies practical reuse strategies that can significantly extend the life of lithium-ion batteries and reduce waste.

Fostering Exchange on Battery Circularity and Digital Innovation

The session concluded with a lively Q&A segment, where participants had the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers. The discussion centred on practical implications, the role of digitalisation in battery lifecycle management, and the importance of scalable second-life solutions to drive a more circular battery economy.

This first dissemination webinar marked a milestone in the BATMASS communication activities, paving the way for further knowledge exchange and stakeholder engagement across Europe’s circular battery ecosystem.
