Our project BATMASS participated in the BeyondBattRec Stakeholder Workshop “Beyond state-of-the-art battery recycling through advanced pre-processing”, held on 23 September 2026.
During the online session, Juanita Zenteno, representing CTA, introduced BATMASS and its work to foster a more circular and sustainable European battery value chain. The project was presented alongside other European initiatives working in the battery recycling field, including BeyondBattRec, CIRCUBATT and ReUse.
Organised by the European project BeyondBattRec, the workshop brought together representatives from research and innovation to exchange perspectives on next-generation solutions for lithium-ion battery recycling, with particular attention to more selective and efficient pre-processing technologies.
The discussion addressed some of the main challenges involved in scaling up sustainable battery recycling in Europe, including improving the quality of battery feedstock, meeting standards and requirements for recycled materials, and addressing the cost drivers affecting innovative recycling technologies.
BATMASS’ participation in the workshop provided an opportunity to strengthen links with complementary European initiatives, exchange knowledge and explore synergies around common challenges across the battery recycling value chain.
These exchanges contribute to a more connected European battery innovation ecosystem and support the development and deployment of circular solutions capable of keeping valuable materials within the European value chain.
