The first Circular Battery Valley (CBV) Annual Event was held at the Mining and Minerals Hall (MMH), marking a pivotal moment for the European battery industry. This central event served as the official launch of the BATMASS initiative and offered a comprehensive look into its ambitious roadmap to transform Europe’s battery sector through circular economy principles.
The event took place on the main stage, under the theme “Meeting Point Towards a Sustainable Future,” setting the tone for impactful discussions on sustainability and innovation. Marcello Colledani, project coordinator and professor at Politecnico di Milano, joined forces with Pierre Padilla from N-ABLE to present the goals and potential benefits of BATMASS, which seeks to create a greener, more competitive battery industry in Europe.
Presenting a Vision for Circularity in Europe’s Battery Value Chain
The BATMASS project, presented through the Circular Battery Valley platform, aims to establish an interconnected ecosystem where battery production, recycling, and reuse are fully integrated, reducing Europe’s reliance on raw material imports and contributing to the EU’s Green Deal targets. During the event, Colledani emphasized the importance of adopting sustainable practices across the battery value chain, while Padilla elaborated on the CBV’s role as a collaborative network that fosters knowledge exchange and supports circular innovations.
Driving Sustainable Development and Competitiveness in the European Battery Sector
As Europe faces increasing demand for batteries, especially with the growth of electric vehicles and renewable energy storage, BATMASS aims to address this challenge by implementing a circular economy approach. The initiative’s objectives include reducing waste, enhancing material recovery, and creating new job opportunities within a sustainable framework.
The inaugural CBV event provided a platform for industry leaders, policymakers, and researchers to discuss the practical steps required to bring this vision to life. Attendees left with a clear understanding of the BATMASS project’s potential to create a resilient and environmentally responsible battery industry in Europe.
